Pipp compared with Missive
A Missive alternative for customer email, with room to focus
Your personal email and customer support email may share an address today, but they ask different things of your team. Missive puts personal mail, team inboxes, tasks, and internal conversation in one product. We’re giving customer support email a place of its own in Pipp: a shared inbox for founders and small teams, with AI assistance. Our non-AI core is free forever; AI is free during beta and paid afterward.
Give your customer conversations a dedicated home. Reserve your spot on the Pipp waitlist for an email-first beta built around support, while keeping the rest of your working day where it belongs.
The short answer
Missive is a collaborative email client. Personal-account messages stay private until someone shares them, while messages to shared accounts are available to the team. A team inbox adds a shared triage queue. Its internal chat, co-drafting, tasks, and rules make sense when customer email is one part of your team’s communication.
We’re building a narrower place for the support conversation. Our v1 scope includes shared email, assignment, internal notes, and team roles. Those are plans for an app still in development, not features you can use today. If your team wants its personal inboxes, shared mailboxes, and internal chat under one roof, Missive already does that job. We aren’t trying to move your founder’s lunch invitation into a support queue.
Pipp and Missive at a glance
| Question | Pipp | Missive |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | A dedicated shared inbox for customer support email, with AI assistance in the product direction. | A collaborative client for personal and team email, internal chat, tasks, and other channels. |
| Available now? | No. Waitlist first, then internal testing and invited beta. No invitation date. | Yes. New teams get a 30-day Productive trial; no general free plan follows it. |
| Personal and team mail | Our v1 is scoped to team customer support email. We aren’t building a personal-email client. | Personal mail is private by default. Shared accounts and team inboxes let coworkers triage and reply together. |
| Collaboration | Assignment and internal notes are in our v1 scope, with no public availability yet. | Internal chat, collaborative drafts, assignments, tasks, and team spaces are available. |
| Channels | Email only in v1. Chat is planned after launch. | Email plus SMS, social accounts, and other connected channels. |
| AI | AI assistance is part of our direction. The first beta may open before AI is enabled; AI is free during beta and paid afterward. | AI assistant and automation options are on Productive and Business, powered by Missive credits or a connected provider key. |
| Core price | Non-AI core free forever. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet. | Paid per active user after the trial. Annual USD rates start at $14 per user per month. AI use can add cost. |

Which inbox belongs in your day?
If you open the same app for your own email, a shared support address, an internal discussion, and a task list, Missive’s breadth is useful. The personal inbox and team inbox have different roles: one gathers work relevant to you, the other holds unassigned work for shared triage. That distinction is easy to miss when someone says “shared inbox.” Missive’s conversation-level internal chat also helps a team discuss an email without making the customer a spectator.
We’re a fit for a different day: a founder or small support team wants a dedicated place to receive, discuss, and answer customer email. We want that experience to be clear and well written, with the support conversation at its center.
Reserve a spot if customer support is mainly email, you want to evaluate a focused beta, and a permanently free non-AI core matters to you. We’d like to welcome teams that care about a clear home for each customer conversation. Keep Missive if personal mail, co-drafting, internal chat rooms, tasks, calendars, rules, integrations, or multiple channels are part of how your team works. It is a capable choice for that broader job.
What Missive costs after the trial
Missive lists these USD prices per user per month when paid yearly. Annual billing means paying for twelve months, rather than a month-to-month subscription. Monthly billing is available, but the annual plan carries a 20% discount; we did not verify exact current monthly checkout amounts.
| Missive plan | Annual rate | User limit | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $14/user/month | Up to 5 | Personal and team inboxes, conversations, and tasks |
| Productive | $24/user/month | Up to 50 | Adds rules, integrations, basic analytics, API access, and AI options |
| Business | $36/user/month | No stated cap | Adds SAML SSO, IP restriction, and advanced analytics |
The 30-day trial starts on Productive without a credit card. It permits up to 25 users, 10 shared accounts, two personal accounts per user, and 30 days of visible history. Missive now says there is no free plan after the trial. Its paid plans include full message history. If you remember a three-user free tier, check the current terms before making a budget decision.
For three people, Starter is $42 per month equivalent, or $504 paid for the year. Productive is $72 per month equivalent, or $864 for the year, before AI usage. These are seat-cost examples, not a like-for-like bill for Pipp. Missive’s AI assistant is on Productive and Business, with prepaid Missive AI credits or a connected provider API key. Either path can add usage cost; we did not verify a fixed all-in AI price.
Our core, non-AI inbox is free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet. We’ll compare it with Missive once we do.
What we’re building next
Email is our v1 channel. We plan to add chat after launch and broaden AI assistance, without a release date for either. The first invited beta may open before AI is enabled. Missive already has internal team chat; that is different from a customer-facing live chat channel, and neither is something we currently offer publicly.
Can we move a Missive inbox to Pipp?
Not yet as a verified migration. Missive documents exports of conversations as JSON folders with attachments, comments and contacts as CSV, responses as HTML with separate attachments, and rules as CSV. The export covers data the requesting user can access, including personal as well as organization conversations. A support-only transfer would need careful selection. Conversations in trash are excluded.
We haven’t verified that Pipp can import those files, preserve assignments and internal context, or keep personal mail out of a support workspace. Keep Missive running while you evaluate our beta and any future migration route. Customer email should not be the place to test a guess about cutover.
Questions about Pipp and Missive
Is Pipp a replacement for my personal and team inboxes in Missive?
No. Our v1 focus is shared customer support email. Missive already handles private personal mail and shared team mail in the same client. If you depend on both, keep Missive.
Does Missive have a free plan?
No current general free plan. Missive offers a 30-day Productive trial for a first organization, then asks the owner to choose a paid plan. The trial has user, account, and visible-history limits.
Is Pipp free forever, including AI?
Our non-AI core inbox is free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet. Free core does not mean unlimited usage.
When can I use Pipp, and will it have chat?
We’re at the waitlist stage, followed by internal testing and invited beta. There’s no fixed invitation date. V1 is email only; chat is planned after launch. The first beta may open before AI is enabled.
Should I cancel Missive before trying Pipp?
No. We don’t have a verified Missive importer, migration service, or cutover process. Keep your current email workflow running while you assess Pipp.
Want customer email to have its own home?
We’re building Pipp for founders and small teams who care about each reply. Reserve a spot on the waitlist to hear when the focused support inbox is ready for beta invitations.
Core inbox: free forever. AI: free during beta, paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet.
We don’t have an invitation date yet.
