Pipp compared with Intercom

A focused Intercom alternative for small teams

If you founded the company, you may still be the person answering its customer email. That closeness is useful. We’re building Pipp to give those conversations a shared home as your team grows, with AI assistance and a non-AI core that’s free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward.

Intercom serves a wider support operation, including Messenger, automation, and Fin. Pipp is being built for teams whose main job is answering email together. Reserve your spot on our waitlist. We’re working toward welcoming as many small teams as we can into the email-first beta.

The short version

Intercom is a broad, available customer service platform. Its paid plans combine support email, live chat, in-app messaging, a shared inbox, ticketing, a help center, reporting, and Fin AI Agent, with more automation and control on higher plans. That breadth is useful when support already spans several channels or needs formal operations. Intercom’s pricing page sets out the current plan scope.

Small teams should be able to answer customer email together without a complicated support setup. We start with that job and put care into the details around it. Your next customer reply shouldn’t need a project kickoff. AI assistance is part of the product, though the first beta may open before AI is enabled.

Core inbox: free forever. AI: free during beta, paid afterward.

What each product is for

Pipp and Intercom at a glance
Question Pipp Intercom
What is the main job? A focused shared email inbox for founders and small teams, with AI assistance. A broad customer service platform with an inbox, ticketing, Messenger, help content, automation, reporting, AI, and several channels.
Can I use it now? Not yet. We’re at the waitlist stage, followed by internal testing and invited beta. Yes. Intercom offers paid plans and a 14-day trial. It does not list a general free plan.
Which channels are covered? Email only in v1. Chat is planned after launch, not available today. Paid plans include support email, live chat, and in-app chat. Email campaigns, SMS, WhatsApp, and phone can carry separate usage charges.
What does AI cost? Any AI offered during beta is free. AI becomes paid after beta, but we haven’t set post-beta AI prices or billing terms yet. Fin starts at $0.99 per outcome. Each full seat includes 10 Copilot conversations a month; unlimited Copilot costs extra.
How much operational depth is there? We’re starting with the inbox. Reporting, workflow automation, a help center and enterprise controls are outside our v1 scope. Intercom has working reporting and help-center tools. Higher plans add workflow automation, routing, security, multibrand, and collaboration controls.
How is the core priced? The non-AI core is free forever. Free doesn’t mean unlimited usage. Full seats are paid per person. Usage-priced AI, outbound messaging, phone, and add-ons can increase the total.

Choose focus when focus is enough

We’re building for the founder who is still close to every customer email, or the small team that wants one calm place to reply together. We want the everyday work of support to feel clear and manageable, with useful essentials and care in every detail.

Consider joining us when:

  • customer support is mainly email;
  • a permanently free non-AI core matters to the business;
  • you want AI assistance without making AI the whole support model;
  • you can evaluate an invited beta without depending on it for live support yet; and
  • you would rather start with a focused product than configure channels and operations you do not need.

Keep Intercom when breadth matters now

Intercom is a better fit when your team relies on:

  • live chat, in-app messaging, WhatsApp, phone, or outbound campaigns;
  • a public or private help center;
  • ticketing, routing, workflow automation, or detailed reporting;
  • established integrations and support processes;
  • security, service-level, or multibrand controls; or
  • Fin, Copilot, or other AI workflows already running in your support operation.

This is where Intercom’s size is a strength. One platform can cover much more than a shared email inbox, and its higher plans are built for teams with more formal support operations. We don’t offer that depth today.

What the pricing means for a small team

Intercom publishes three full-seat plans in USD. The lower figures below are per seat per month with annual billing. The higher figures are month-to-month rates.

Intercom paid plans
Intercom plan Annual billing Monthly billing Notable plan detail
Essential $29 per seat/month $39 per seat/month Shared inbox, ticketing, Messenger, pre-built reports, and a public help center
Advanced $85 per seat/month $99 per seat/month Adds workflow automation, routing, private and multilingual help centers, and 20 Lite seats
Expert $132 per seat/month $139 per seat/month Adds advanced security, service levels, multibrand support, and 50 Lite seats

Fin starts at $0.99 per outcome. Unlimited Copilot costs $29 per agent per month with annual billing or $35 monthly; each full seat includes 10 Copilot conversations per month. Intercom also lists usage charges for some messaging channels and phone, plus optional add-ons. See the official pricing page and plan details for the current definitions and terms.

For a concrete small-team example, two Essential full seats cost $58 per month on annual billing or $78 on monthly billing. That is before Fin outcomes, paid channel usage, and optional add-ons. It is a seat-cost illustration, not a like-for-like total for Pipp.

Our core inbox is free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price or billing model yet. During beta, any AI we offer costs you nothing. You can leave the outcome calculator closed for now.

What comes after email

We’re starting with email. Chat is one of the first features we plan to add after launch, alongside broader AI assistance. We want to bring that same care to more of your support day as Pipp grows. We haven’t set release dates for those additions.

If you need chat now, choose a product that already offers it. Joining the Pipp waitlist lets you evaluate what we’re building as it becomes available.

Is Pipp ready for an Intercom migration?

No. We don’t yet offer a verified Intercom importer, migration service, field mapping, or cutover process. Keep Intercom running while you evaluate the Pipp beta.

Intercom can export conversation content through its interface and API, and it provides CSV and JSON routes for other conversation data. Intercom’s export documentation explains the formats and their limits. We haven’t verified that we can import those exports.

We still need to test and document which conversations, customer records, attachments and team context we can import, and how to keep open requests covered during a move.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pipp a complete replacement for Intercom?

No. We’re building a focused shared email inbox for small teams. Intercom already covers more channels, support operations, help content, integrations, reporting, and AI. Teams that need that breadth today should keep or choose Intercom.

Is Pipp free forever?

Our core, non-AI inbox is free forever. AI features are free during beta and paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet. Free doesn’t mean unlimited usage.

Does Pipp support live chat?

Not in v1. We’re starting with email. Chat is one of the first features planned after launch, with no promised date. Intercom already includes live chat and in-app messaging in its paid plans.

When can I use Pipp?

We’re at the waitlist stage. We’ll test it internally before inviting beta users, and there is no fixed invitation date. The first beta may open before AI is enabled.

How much does Intercom cost for a small team?

Intercom Essential is $29 per full seat per month with annual billing or $39 with monthly billing. Two full seats therefore cost $58 or $78 per month before Fin outcomes, paid channel usage, and add-ons. Intercom also lists a 14-day trial, but no general free plan.

Should I cancel Intercom before trying Pipp?

No. We haven’t verified a way to import Intercom history. Join the waitlist if Pipp’s email focus fits, and plan a cutover only after migration coverage is documented.
