Pipp compared with Zoho Desk

A Zoho Desk alternative for founders who live in support email

Zoho Desk can make sense when support belongs in a larger Zoho setup. But a small team may simply need a dedicated place to answer customer email together. We’re building Pipp around that job, with AI assistance and a non-AI core that’s free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward.

Zoho Desk has ticketing, a three-user Free edition, and paid workflow tools that connect with other Zoho products. Pipp is for teams looking for a focused email workspace of its own. If that’s your team, reserve your spot on the waitlist for our email-first beta.

The short answer

Zoho Desk fits an established operation, especially if Zoho CRM customer records already matter to your team. Pipp is for teams whose main need is answering email together in a dedicated place. Zoho’s free plan is a real option for three people, so “free” alone is not a reason to move. The difference is how much support system you need around the inbox.

Question Pipp Zoho Desk
Can we use it now? No. We are at the waitlist stage, with internal testing before an invited beta. There is no fixed invitation date. Yes. Zoho offers an ongoing Free edition for up to three users and a separate 15-day trial of paid features.
What is the main job? Focused shared email support for founders and small teams. Ticket-based support across email and, on paid editions, more channels and operational tools.
Which channels are in scope? Email only in v1. Chat is planned after launch. Email ticketing is available in Free. Paid editions add options such as social, messaging, telephony, and live chat, depending on edition.
How does teamwork work? Our planned v1 includes assignment, internal notes, and roles. It has not been released for public use. Zoho has ticket assignment and workflows on paid plans, plus deeper routing and reporting at higher levels.
What about AI? AI assistance is in our product direction. The first beta may open before AI is enabled. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. Zoho lists generative AI options on paid editions. Key, edition, user and data-center conditions matter; check the option you intend to use.
What is free? Our non-AI core will be free forever. We have not set our post-beta AI price. The Free edition is capped at three users and has fewer features than paid editions. It is not the same thing as the 15-day trial.

Where our smaller scope helps

We’re building around the moment a founder opens a customer email and needs to answer it with care, perhaps after asking a teammate for context. If that describes most of your support day, a dedicated email inbox may be enough. You need the message, the people working it, and a clear next reply. You may not need to set up a wider ticket operation yet.

We are keeping the first release focused on email. Zoho already serves teams with more channels and established workflows. If you need those today, keep them; we are building for the smaller email-support job.

Where Zoho earns its place

Keep Zoho Desk if your three-person team is happy on Free. It already handles email tickets at no charge. Keep it if you depend on ticket reports, automation, a knowledge base, or support channels beyond email. The pricing page places those capabilities across paid editions, so check the edition before counting on a particular feature.

Zoho is also a sensible home when sales and support share records. Its Zoho CRM integration can sync contacts, accounts, and products, and the setup requires a paid Desk edition. We do not have a verified equivalent integration. If your support agent needs the CRM deal beside the ticket, that is a practical reason to stay.

Pricing without the currency trap

Zoho shows prices in several currencies on its main page. It showed Indian rupees in our research region. The USD examples below come from Zoho’s own Express page and USD comparison page; they are not converted from rupees. Local prices and taxes can differ. The paid annual figures are per user per month with a yearly commitment. Zoho also offers monthly subscriptions, but we could verify a current USD monthly figure only for Express.

Zoho Desk pricing and plans
Zoho Desk edition USD with annual billing USD with monthly billing What to check
Free $0, up to 3 users $0, up to 3 users Limited email ticketing; this is an ongoing plan.
Express $7 per user/month $9 per user/month Up to 5 users; email, social, web forms, assignment, and workflows.
Standard $14 per user/month Check regional selector Adds messaging, knowledge base, and reporting options.
Professional $23 per user/month Check regional selector Adds telephony and webhooks.
Enterprise $40 per user/month Check regional selector Adds advanced routing, multibrand help center, and a sandbox.

The Free plan and 15-day trial are different offers. Zoho says an unpaid trial moves to Free when it ends. On paid plans, those annual rates are monthly equivalents billed for the year. As a simple example, three Express users are $21 per month in annual-rate terms, or $27 if billed month to month. Check Zoho’s pricing page in your region before buying.

Our non-AI inbox will be free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. We have not set our post-beta AI price, so we cannot give a paid-AI total beside Zoho’s plans.

Read the AI eligibility before comparing costs

Zoho’s AI offering is more specific than a single “AI included” label. Its pricing page lists AI Agent Studio and bring-your-own-key generative AI on Express and higher. Zoho’s GenAI setup guide says an OpenAI key can bring separate token charges. Its AI agent documentation says the prebuilt Desk agents are rolling out to selected users in US and India data centers. The listed monthly token allowance for Zoho’s own model does not make every AI feature available to every account.

We intend AI to help with support email, but availability is separate from pricing. The first Pipp beta may open without AI enabled. When AI is offered during beta, it is free; after beta, it will be paid. We have not set that price.

What comes after email

We plan chat after launch, along with broader AI assistance. Neither has a release date. If live chat, messaging, telephony, or a public help center is required now, choose a product that already has it. Zoho Desk’s paid editions are worth evaluating for that job.

Can we move from Zoho Desk to Pipp?

We do not have a verified Zoho Desk importer, migration service, or cutover process. Please keep Zoho Desk running while evaluating any Pipp beta. We cannot promise which tickets or history would transfer.

Zoho documents CSV exports of individual modules such as tickets and contacts, subject to permissions and department selection. Its data backup guide describes threads, comments, and attachment download links, with the backup controlled by the account’s primary contact. A CSV of ticket fields alone is not a complete email conversation. Before a move, we would need to test thread and attachment coverage, map customer records and statuses, and plan for open tickets without missed replies.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pipp a replacement for Zoho Desk today?

No. Our email-only v1 is still prelaunch, and Zoho Desk covers ticketing and more support operations. Join our waitlist if focused email support fits your team; evaluate Pipp when invited beta access becomes available.

Does Zoho Desk have a free plan or only a trial?

It has both. The Free edition supports up to three users with limited features. The paid-edition trial lasts 15 days, after which Zoho says an unpaid account moves to Free. Zoho explains the distinction on its pricing page.

Is Pipp free forever, including AI?

Our non-AI core is free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. We have not set our post-beta AI price. Free does not mean unlimited usage.

Does Zoho Desk include AI on the Free edition?

Do not assume so. Zoho lists its generative AI options under paid editions and documents conditions for keys, editions, users, and data centers. Check your account’s eligibility for the exact feature. Zoho’s edition comparison is the right starting point.

Should we leave Zoho CRM behind to try Pipp?

No. Zoho’s paid Desk and CRM integration can keep customer and product context connected. We do not have a verified replacement for that link or a migration path. Keep the systems your team relies on while you evaluate us.

A place for the email work

Keep your team’s attention on the customer email. We’re building Pipp around that focus, and we’re preparing to welcome teams into beta. Reserve your spot. Our non-AI core is free forever; AI is free during beta and paid afterward.
