Pipp compared with Freshdesk

A thoughtful Freshdesk alternative for small teams

A customer email needs an owner and a useful reply. It doesn’t always need a full help desk around it. We’re building Pipp for small teams that want to share that email work in one focused inbox, with AI assistance. The non-AI core is free forever; AI is free during beta and paid afterward.

Freshdesk has the ticketing, portal, and reporting that a more structured support team may need. If your work is mainly email, reserve a place on the Pipp waitlist. We’re putting our effort into an email-only first version and preparing to welcome teams into the invited beta.

The short answer

Freshdesk is a good fit when email support needs formal ticketing and a wider set of operational tools. We’re building for small teams that want a focused inbox and a permanent free non-AI core, with AI free during beta and paid afterward.

Freshdesk is an established, email-first help desk. Its paid Growth plan starts at $19 per agent per month on annual billing and includes a shared inbox, ticketing, a customer portal, a knowledge base, reports, tasks, roles and permissions. Freshworks describes this product separately from Freshdesk Omni, its multichannel offer. See Freshworks’ pricing page and product and plan guide.

We’re building Pipp for founders and small teams who want thoughtful customer email support without setting up a broader help-desk operation. Freshdesk earns its place when your team uses its portal, ticket workflows, and reporting. If the smaller job sounds familiar, the Pipp waitlist is open for your interest.

Non-AI core: free forever. AI: free during beta, paid afterward.

Why a smaller product can be useful

Small support teams often have a simple daily job: read the customer’s message, understand what happened, write a useful reply and make sure someone owns the follow-up. We’re building Pipp around that work.

We want Pipp to be easy to open, understand and return to. That means giving the wording and everyday interactions as much care as the feature list. AI assistance should help you answer customers thoughtfully while keeping you close to their questions.

Freshdesk’s operational tools have a purpose too. If your team needs a knowledge base, formal ticket routing, reports or advanced permissions, those tools may matter more than a smaller product. Our beta will give you a chance to judge whether that focus fits your daily work.

When Pipp may suit your team

Pipp may be a useful Freshdesk alternative to watch if:

  • email is your main support channel;
  • your support team is small and still close to each customer conversation;
  • a non-AI core that stays free matters more than a six-month free evaluation period;
  • you want AI assistance as part of the product, with a clear boundary between the free core and paid AI;
  • you value a product built around thoughtful writing and a calm, focused experience; and
  • you can join a waitlist and test an invited beta while your current support system keeps running.

When Freshdesk is the better fit

Freshdesk is a better fit when your team depends on:

  • ticketing and a shared inbox with established workflows;
  • a customer portal or knowledge base;
  • reporting, roles, permissions, tasks or formal collaboration;
  • routing, multiple service-level policies or multilingual support;
  • several mailboxes, external collaborators, security controls or administration features;
  • existing Freshworks products or marketplace integrations; or
  • Freddy AI Agent or Copilot in a live support process.

Freshdesk’s broader scope is useful when customer support needs more structure and oversight.

Freshdesk pricing and limits

Freshdesk publishes prices in USD per agent per month. The figures below use annual billing. See the official pricing page for monthly billing rates and current terms.

Freshdesk pricing and limits
Freshdesk option Published price or limit What to know
Free Program $0 for up to 2 agents Limited to 6 months. Freshworks says an upgrade is required after six months or when the team needs more than two agents. It applies to Freshdesk, not Freshdesk Omni.
Growth $19 per agent/month, billed annually Includes ticketing, shared inbox, portal, knowledge base, reporting, threads, tasks, roles and permissions.
Pro $55 per agent/month, billed annually Adds features including multilingual help-desk support, custom reporting, intelligent routing, multiple service-level policies and external collaborators.
Enterprise $89 per agent/month, billed annually Adds features including skills-based routing, sandbox, audit logs, and allowed-domain and IP controls.

The Freshdesk Free Program guide sets its current limits at two agents for six months. It is not a permanent free tier. If you have an older account, check its specific terms with Freshworks.

For a two-person team, Growth costs $38 per month when billed annually. That is $19 for each of two agents, before extra AI sessions, Copilot or other add-ons. It is an illustration of Freshdesk’s seat cost, not a like-for-like total for two products with the same capabilities.

Our non-AI core is free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. No six-month countdown on the core. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price or billing model yet, so we can’t compare total costs including paid AI. Free doesn’t mean unlimited usage.

Freshdesk AI pricing needs one careful distinction

Freshdesk Growth, Pro and Enterprise include the first 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions once per account. That allowance does not refresh each month. After it is used, additional AI Agent sessions cost $49 per 100 sessions. Freshworks defines an Email AI Agent session as a 72-hour window that starts with a customer’s first email, with all AI replies in that window counted as one session. Freshdesk pricing explains the allowance, session definition and additional packs.

Freddy AI Copilot is a separate add-on at $29 per agent per month, billed annually, on Pro and Enterprise. Freshdesk also lists day passes, connector app tasks and MCP actions as possible charges. Check the official pricing page for the current units and terms before buying.

Our non-AI product stays free. AI is free during beta and becomes paid afterward. The first beta may open before AI is enabled. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price or billing model yet.

What we plan after email

We’re starting with email. Chat is one of the first features planned after launch, alongside broader AI assistance. These additions have no promised release dates.

The first invited beta may open before AI is enabled. AI assistance is part of the product we are building. We will make its availability clear as we invite teams to try Pipp.

Is Pipp ready for a Freshdesk migration?

No. We don’t yet offer a verified Freshdesk importer, migration service, field mapping or cutover process. Keep Freshdesk running while you evaluate the Pipp beta.

Freshdesk lets admins export filtered ticket data as CSV or Excel. Its documentation says full ticket conversations and historical account data require an account export in XML. A normal ticket-list export does not contain full conversations or archived history. See Freshdesk’s ticket export guide.

We still need to test and document which conversations, attachments and customer records we can import, and how to handle open tickets. Evaluate the beta before planning a switch.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pipp a complete Freshdesk replacement?

No. We’re building a focused shared email inbox for small teams. Freshdesk already provides ticketing, self-service, reporting, automation, administration and optional AI. Teams that need those capabilities today should choose or keep Freshdesk.

Is Freshdesk free forever?

Its current Free Program is free for up to two agents for six months. Freshworks says you must move to a paid plan if you need more than two agents or want to continue after six months. The program applies to Freshdesk, not Freshdesk Omni. For older accounts, check the terms attached to your account.

Is Pipp free forever?

Our core, non-AI product is free forever. AI features are free during beta and paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet. Free doesn’t mean unlimited usage.

Does Pipp support email today?

Not as a publicly available product. We’re at the waitlist stage, and v1 is planned around email. Internal dogfooding comes before invited beta. There is no fixed invitation date.

Does Pipp support chat?

Not in v1. Chat is one of the first features planned after launch, with no promised date. This comparison covers the email-first Freshdesk product, not Freshdesk Omni.

Are Freshdesk’s 500 AI Agent sessions included every month?

No. Freshworks says the 500 free Freddy AI Agent sessions are available once per account on Growth, Pro and Enterprise. Once they are used, additional sessions cost $49 per 100 sessions.

How much does Freshdesk cost for two agents?

The Free Program supports two agents for up to six months. After that, two Growth seats cost $38 per month on annual billing at the published rate checked on September 23, 2026. AI usage and other add-ons may increase the total. The figure uses annual billing; monthly billing may cost more.

Should I cancel Freshdesk before trying Pipp?

No. We haven’t verified a Freshdesk importer or migration service. Join the waitlist if a smaller email workflow fits, and review ticket-history coverage before planning any switch.

If your team wants to handle customer email together without taking on a full help desk, join the waitlist. We want to welcome small teams who value that focus as Pipp reaches invited beta.
