Pipp compared with Plain
A Plain alternative for founder-led email support
Some support questions are also product feedback. When you’re building the product and answering those emails, keeping the conversation close matters. We’re building Pipp around that work, with a shared email inbox, careful writing, and AI assistance. Plain takes a wider B2B support approach, joining conversations with account context and engineering workflows.
For a focused home for customer email, reserve your spot on Pipp’s waitlist for the invited beta. Our non-AI core is free forever. AI is free during beta and paid afterward. Plain offers a seven-day trial, not a general free plan. Its plans and billing guide explain the current offer.
The short answer
Plain fits support woven into product and engineering systems. Its pricing table includes Slack, email, in-app channels, customer cards, developer integrations, and AI on Foundation. Higher plans add more channels and operational controls. Those connections are useful when your team depends on them.
Consider Pipp if most customer conversations arrive by email and you want a focused product for that work. We’re building for small teams that handle support themselves. Reserve your spot to try that approach in beta.
| What matters | Pipp | Plain |
|---|---|---|
| Job and availability | A shared email inbox for founders and small teams, with AI assistance. Prelaunch; waitlist before an invited beta. | Available B2B support infrastructure connecting conversations, customer context, product teams, and engineering workflows. |
| Channels | Email only in v1. Chat is planned after launch, without a date. | Foundation lists email, Slack, in-app forms, and live chat. Horizon adds Microsoft Teams; Frontier lists Discord. |
| Customer and developer context | We’re concentrating on the shared email workflow. A public API, customer cards and established integrations sit outside our v1 scope. | Customer cards request API-backed account data, with plan-dependent refresh. Plain also lists an API, webhooks, events, and Linear and Jira integrations. |
| AI | Part of our product scope. The first beta may start before AI is enabled. Free during beta, paid afterward. | Ari AI agent is currently included; Sidekick uses monthly credits, with extra credits available to buy. |
| Core price | Non-AI core free forever; no public availability yet. | Paid plans after a seven-day trial. Foundation starts at a displayed $35 per month with annual billing. |
Plain details in this table come from its official pricing page, billing guide, product page, customer-card documentation, and AI credit guide, checked September 24, 2026.
Where the two approaches part ways
Plain treats support as part of a B2B product’s infrastructure. Customer cards call your own API for account context, and its product page describes workflows tied to customer and product data. If your team handles an account question by checking a tenant, a deployment, and a Linear issue, those connections can be the point of the tool. That breadth is central to Plain’s value.
We’re choosing a narrower starting point. A small team should be able to see the email, understand who is handling it, and write back together without setting up a support platform around every reply. Our first release centers on that email workflow; Plain already connects support to a wider set of systems.
What the prices actually cover
Plain’s public table displays dollar-sign amounts as monthly equivalents billed yearly. It offers monthly billing too, but we did not verify the monthly-billed dollar amounts or an ISO currency label for the plan charges. Its billing guide says annual billing saves 10%. These are plan prices, not a like-for-like quote for both products.
| Plain plan | Displayed base price on annual billing | Seats and AI allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation | $35 per month | One seat included; $35 per additional seat, up to five. 2,000 Sidekick credits per month. |
| Horizon | $299 per month | Three seats included; $99 per additional seat, up to ten. 15,000 Sidekick credits per month. |
| Frontier | Custom | Custom seats and credits; ask Plain for a quote. |
For two people on Foundation, the displayed seat cost is $70 per month on annual billing, before any extra Sidekick credits. Foundation allows two email addresses and 25 Slack channels; Horizon allows ten email addresses and unlimited Slack channels. Plain offers a seven-day trial without a credit card, rather than a permanent free plan. An eligible startup may qualify for a discount, but that needs Plain’s approval.
Sidekick credits reset monthly and included credits do not roll over. Sidekick pauses when the allowance is used unless you add credits or wait for the next cycle. Plain says Ari is free for all workspaces today; that wording does not promise Ari will always be free. We did not find a public add-on rate for extra Sidekick credits. Our non-AI core is free forever, while AI is free during beta and paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet, so there is no honest total-AI-cost comparison to make.
Plain’s pricing table lists a 12-hour customer-card cache on Foundation and a 15-second cache on Horizon and Frontier. Account context can therefore be older on the entry plan.
When to keep Plain
Keep Plain if your customers expect help in Slack or inside your app, or if customer cards pull plan and account details from your own systems. Its API and webhooks also matter when support is wired into engineering workflows. Plain’s pricing table shows SLAs, escalation paths, reporting, and other controls on higher plans. Those are working capabilities you may need now. We cannot replace them with a roadmap sentence.
When to consider Pipp
Reserve a spot if your small team’s support is mainly email and a focused shared inbox is enough to evaluate. We’re designing around the founder who still reads the customer replies, and the teammate who joins them when that becomes too much for one tab. Our non-AI core is free forever; AI is free during beta and paid afterward. You can assess the actual beta before deciding whether it belongs in your support workflow.
What we plan after email
Chat is among the first features we plan after launch, along with broader AI assistance. We have no release dates for them. Our first version stays email only. The first beta may open before AI is enabled, even though AI assistance remains part of what we’re building.
Moving from Plain would need a plan
We have no verified Plain importer, migration service, field mapping, or cutover process. Plain documents retrieving thread messages and notes through its GraphQL API, with pagination for collections. It also says there is no built-in thread PDF export or export button on the thread timeline. We have not verified a ready-made whole-workspace export covering attachments, customer cards, settings, and Slack history.
Before anyone could rely on a move, we would need to test what Pipp can accept, where customer-card data resides, and how to keep non-email conversations covered. Keep Plain running while you evaluate our beta. An email-only inbox cannot take over a Slack support channel by good intentions alone.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pipp a complete Plain replacement?
No. Plain already connects B2B support across channels and developer systems. We’re building a focused shared email inbox and are still prelaunch. If your team depends on Plain’s Slack, API, customer cards, or operations tools, keep it.
Does Plain have a free plan?
Plain lists a seven-day trial without a credit card, not a general free plan. Its displayed Foundation price starts at $35 per month on annual billing for one seat. Plain’s pricing page has the current terms.
What will Pipp’s AI cost?
AI is free during beta and paid afterward. We haven’t set our post-beta AI price yet. The non-AI core is free forever. The first invited beta may open before AI is enabled.
Can Pipp handle customer Slack channels?
No. Our v1 is email only. Chat is planned after launch, without a promised date. Plain already lists Slack channels in Foundation, with plan limits on its pricing page.
Can I export Plain and import it into Pipp?
We haven’t verified a Plain-to-Pipp import path. Plain documents API access to thread content, but that is not a tested Pipp importer. Keep your current setup until export coverage, field mapping, and a safe cutover have been tested.
When can my team use Pipp?
We’re at the waitlist stage, followed by internal testing and an invited beta. We have no fixed invitation date. Join if you want to see whether our email-first approach fits once there’s a beta to try.
